Product Description
The Basecoat Dense was designed to facilitate leathercrafters during the leather edge finishing process. This is useful when they work on leather edges with a very large width. Used as first layer on the raw leather edge, the Basecoat Dense increases the adhesion characteristics on the leather. It also acts as a filler for all the blank spaces of the edge surface.
Finishing leather edges made up with more than one leather layer (such as in bags, bag handles, wallets, etc.) this filling function will make the line in the middle of leather edge disappear. Usually with old leather edge paints you can still see the line in the middle.
During the application phase the Basecoat appears to be whitish in color but once dried has a semi-transparent color and a very solid consistency. Once completely dry, the Basecoat can be worked using a brush, a scotch-brite cloth or a sand paper (we recommend a very fine grain) in order to get a uniform and very smooth leather edge without any imperfection. Once you have prepared the leather edge in this way, you can proceed to the next coloring phases, choosing the most suitable paints for your leather type and your favourite finishing effects.
In case of application on oily/greasy leather the product may loose some adhesion due to the difficulties in penetrating the leather. In that case we suggest the use of the Adhesion Aid specifically designed to solve this kind of problem.
